The Summer Mask Intensive for Educators
July 31-August 20, 2021

“Beneath the mask the actor’s face disappears and you begin to notice his body...

Every movement is revealed as powerfully expressive."

Jacques Lecoq

This training taught in a master-class format.

Hunter has the distinction of being one of the few artists in the world to have been certified as pedagogical specialists in the pedagogical Lecoqian program.

The summer intensive is full of discussion with an experiential approach giving educators an opportunity to experience firsthand the transformative power of mask work. The training is suitable for educators already working with masks as well as those who have no previous experience but are interested in adding mask to their curriculum.

The intention is to provide educators with innovative exercises and new perspectives, giving them the tools to enhance their curriculum and/or to guide their own students through the process of creating devised work.

The journey encompasses a fundamental approach to specific types of theatre masks, including the study of Neutral Mask, Larval Mask, Character Mask, Commedia Dell'Arte Mask, and the smallest mask of all, the Red Nose. Participants will have the opportunity to explore each mask experientially as students, and then to devise curriculum proposal workshops leading other participants of the class.

Registration Deadline is Friday, April 16th, 2021
